How do you feel about a "smoke-free patios in restaurants" ordinance?
I'm going to adress this issue to the city council. What are some arguments?
Public Comments
- no way, if you are outside then you should be allowed to smoke
- If you can't smoke outdoors on a patio, that is ridiculous. Next they will say you can't smoke on the streets. What is next! All us smokers will have to climb a tree to have our smoke breaks!
- Bull-turd lady. Bad enough there aren't smoking sections inside the restaurants--what the he!! do you think they made patios for--so the people who want to smoke have a place to go.
- ^^^^^^right will sumone anser my question now about the .22
- Dining areas inside or out should be smokeless. If it was a dance club patio and people were drinkig then I would care less. If the place installed a smoke vent in a smoking area of the patio and sat people separately, then that would be fine too as long as it worked.
- Well I don't smoke, and both my parents do, and you'd figure I'd be used to it, but I hate it. I drive my parents insane...And even outside there's a breeze, and if your on the wrong side of that breeze you get the smoke right in your face regardless of being outside or not. But I think that should be a restaurants choice...
- some studies indicate that second hand smoke can prevent some life threating cancers and improve lung quality.
- I don't smoke, I hate the smell, and it aggravates the hell out of my allergies. But outdoors is outdoors, and I think that they should let people smoke outside. I can just sit inside, or away from the smokers. Here in FL, we've already kicked the smokers outside of virtually every building other than bars. They've got to have some place to go, so I say let them keep the patios.
- How about smoker's rights? Hmmmm?
- i think they are great! why should someone have to deal with smOKe while trying to eat? if you can not smoke for the time it takes to have a meal, then you have a real problem. if someone was doing something that upset you , would that be ok? it's not a one way street...
- i am a smoker and i like it. I cant stand eating with someone blowing a cig in my face. I have never smoked in a resturante
- It's a shame that smokers are treated like second class citizens. If you can't smoke outside, then where the hell can you? Tobacco taxes in most states pay for highway maintenance in particular, and wages for state employees. If it weren't for smokers, state taxes would go up for everyone. Throw them a bone already.
- Owners of private businesses should have the right to determine if and where smoking is allowed in their place of business. Individuals will decide if the business deserves their future business.
- Outside the smoke blows onto the other patrons worse than inside. Wind moves it onto someones table. I pay good money for my food & I do not want to smell smoke while I eat. I do not want to smell like smoke when I go home. And I definitely do not want to die because someone else choosing to go against every health warning & smoke. Anyone unable to eat out & not smoke, needs to stay home & eat. My nephew says "you don't smoke & he will not fart"
- Smoke free patios are the next wave, although the smokers will claim their rights are being violated (what else is new?) I would like to enjoy the outdoor patios during the summer, but with the smokers flocking to them and puffing away on their dirty, smelly habit, it makes them an unattractive location to enjoy a meal or some drinks. Amazes me how smokers don't get it. Smell your closets on a nice rainy day. Will you ever understand that blowing your smoke in public places is inconsiderate and subjects others to your unpleasant odor (and rudeness). Successful lawsuits against smokers and establishments are just a matter of time.
