Iam just going over the existing flooring after i resecure it and then lay my decking right over the old one ;was thinking 10 per square foot labor and material i think the decking goes for like 5 per square foot?

  1. Hi Tommy, Call Lowes or Home Depot - they sell it. They don't sell it by the square foot. They sell it by the linear foot but you can calculate it. I think you are low but they will let you know. Take care, PS: Considering what Doc said (I don't think Doc realized you were quoting it with materials): I think that the Trex alone will cost you close to $10 sq.ft. and since you are including materials in the price you may very well do this job for nothing if you're not careful. I'm not even going to comment on the merits of putting it over an existing deck. I will assume that is what the owner wants and leave it at that.
  2. Give the 10 to Steve; but I have to ask this. I may be mistaken; but what I read is you intend to install TREX (Not strictly my fave) OVER OLD Decking? No offense, but I hope you're moving away after this job. Another 2 cents. Again no offense; but if you haven't an idea of what and how to charge at this point; $10 per is probably high. Obviously that's contingent on the size, and since you don't seem to have to do any framing/ support/ removal/ if I was doing the install; I'd feel guilty at $10 per. Considering you might be able to install 100 plus sq. ft. in an hour or less; given that TREX as well as other composites; As Steve notes; are sold by the linear foot. On a personal note; if I could make $1000 per hour as a contractor; I would have owned a home in Fiji; on the beach, at this point in my life. Ah then I re-read... $900 is probably closer to a fair price; IF you were to do more than just a "Deck Over." for 90 sq. ft. EVEN with cuts; if you can't be out of there in an hour; you might want to re-think the situation. Forgive this; I'd be very happy taking 8 to 10 jobs a day like this, at $900 per.
