Platform Decks

How do I make my decking a different colour?

I recently put some decking in my back garden and then coloured it with wood stain. I've now decided I don't like the colour and wondered if it was possible to re-stain with a lighter shade. Is this possible?

  1. Sure, just give it a good sand and then re-stain it.
  2. re stain
  3. well all you have to do is sand & stain. u could go to home depot and get some sand pads and the stain if your not sure what you want or how to do it then you could ask a worker that works at home depot about that.
  4. use a wood stain
  5. well you can always go darker not lighter unless it sanded down to the bare wood again....then restain...
  6. As everyone has already said, all you have to do is sand it back to the wood and re-stain it. This is difficult if you have the grooved boards as you will not be able to get in the groove. You could consider turning the boards over and staining that side. If you do sand the boards back then you will have to treat the timber with Cuprinol 5 star wood preserver before you stain it as the timber is pressure treated and you will be opening it up. Also when you ome to stain it, if you want it to last use an oil based stain. The best ones to use are Sadolin or Sikkens. They are expensive but if done every two years will outlast you. The cheap ones will have to be reapplied every 5-6 months no matter what it says on the tin. have fun
