Why has my housebroken Rottweiler started pooping on the pool deck?

My rottie used to come let me know when he needed to go outside and do his business. He has, in the past week or so, started opening the back door by himself to go outside, but he can't get out of the screened enclosure, so he poops on the pool deck. What in the world is he thinking??

1. well, there could be certain health conditions such as kidney failure or stroke. You should get him checked out by the vet ASAP.

4. He considers the pool deck to be outside, and when he has to go - he goes. Why not put in a doggy door so that he can make it all the way out to the yard?
