Platform Decks

An outdoor glass table shattered, sending pieces into our pool and pool deck, mulch and grass. What can we do?

Its been really windy, and a glass table tipped over, sending glass everywhere. It went into our pool, pool deck, rock mulch, pinestraw (pine needle mulch) and grass. The pool deck will be relatively easy to sweep, but what about cleaning everything else, especially our pool? We live in Goldsboro NC, is there a company that might do this kind of work? Also, will we have to drain our pool, because that is a major pain, and costly. Thanks.

  1. A shop vac might help the ground area. a pool vac might help too. removing all the pine straw and replacing it other than that I am unsure what else to suggest.
  2. You should be able to vacuum up all of the glass. the pieces that fell in the pool should be in one area of the pool and can also be vacuumed out. Don't empty the pool. You could rent a pump from a local rental company that will work for the pool glass. Any water you pump from the pool when sucking out the glass needs to be run through a strainer prior to being returned to the pool. Use a shop vac for the glass in the pine straw and deck areas.
  3. YUP, what they said!
  4. I am sorry realistically you will have to empty the pool unless the glass was coloured and you can see every last piece. It will have moved around the pool like a coin does if you drop it it. Other than that if you have a pool brush you could try gently sweeping the whole bottom very slowly to one corner and then picking out the pieces, but unless you all wear plastic shoes in the pool I think you run a great risk of injury, you will not see the glass and if there is just one piece it could be enough for serious injury. Never have glass near a pool.
