How do I install decking lights? I have a 10mx10m desk and I'm looking to install 20 to 30 lights round the edge.I have a 240v outdoor socket too. Need help with install and where is a good place to buy LED decking lights from?
I want to install lighting in my pool, how do I not electrocute myself? I wanted to install a line of LED lighting underneath the overhang of the deck over the pool. Think the right angle at the top of the liner, where the liner meets the deck. It won't be in the water, but I wanted to run a line of lighting around the circumference of the pool. Even though, is there a regulator you have to attach to the line somewhere so that voltage can not flow into the water unchecked? Just in case any current got into the pool itself.
How do i install rear deck brake lights? I want to get 2 small lolli pop red turn/brake lamps for my rear deck window. Like the cops have. How do i wire them up ? Please be specific. I would wire them directly to my 3rd brake light and turn signals.? But do i need relays? Is that too much of a draw? thanks
Landscape lighting question? How would one go about installing a deck light such as this into a stone wall? Would you just cut into the stone so that the light would fit? Would that weaken the structure of the wall significantly? Or would you remove an entire brick to fit it, and would that weaken the structure of the wall significantly? http://www.landscapelightingworld.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=620+steplight+outdoor+lighting
how do i install a car deck? hi, my friend has this panisonic car deck, its an older one. we had gottin it all wired up properly with the wiring harness the car is a pontiac bonnevil but... the deck seam to work only if the lights are on, what seams to be the problem is most cases? but there are also two rca wires coming out of the back of the deck that look like there are something to be plugged into them. its not the ones that are for sub or anything, ive never seen these wires on a deck b4
I want to hook up a hot tub and plan electrical for future yard use? There was at one time a hot tub on the deck, I have since move it to outdoor gazebo. The tub is presently 125 feet away from the service panel. I need to know can I feed/junction off of the old hook 75ft from service and 75ft to new tub location. At the junction I want to also install light and fan w/switch for the outdoor grill area. My question is how do I test to determine weather existing wire is adequate and what would be the maximum load. While undergoing this task I want to know what I would need to install for my future use which would include electrical to the shed 100 ft from junction and pool 75ft from junction or 75ft from service panel (dedicated hook up pool). If this makes any since to you please help. correction, the distance from the service panel to junction box is 100ft, and tub location is 90ft, total 190ft. The current wire is awg #6 with a #10 grd, type UF-B 600 volts. The tub's EL rating is 40amps, and call for 240/50amps. I am also hoping to run a ceiling fan with lgts, and a 30something flat screen...Thankz
Trailer wiring question, how to separate brake from signal lights on a trailer? I am building a new trailer, and I ran into a snag in the electrical system, I installed four sets of lights: three amber sets for turn signals(one set on rear of trailer, and a set on either side of the fenders), and a red set for brake lights, but when I went to wire them up, I realized the tow vehicle has the signals and brake on the same circuit on the same lights, so of course when I hooked them up i got signals on both and brakes on both. here is a little bit of information on my system: Vehicle is a 2001 Chrysler Neon 2.0l the rear of the vehicle has the two red brake/signal lights and two clear reverse lights the trailer is a 5x9 tilting utility trailer the rear of the trailer has 2 red brake lights (one on each side), 2 amber turn signals (one on each side), a red marker bar in the middle, and some amber turn signals on the front and rear of each fender with multiple side marker lights along each side of the frame and reach. with strips of reflective tape in between. The connection is a 7pin round plug and receptacle, with a separate 4 pin round for auxiliary circuits for tilt control (two wires), deck lights switch and spare. Winch control is on reach. I know if the tow vehicle has separate brake and signal lights, you can get a converter to change it to operate on the same light, but how can I do the opposite and separate them? I am not looking for questions like why I need all of this, the trailer is for work and it is specified that I must have separate brake and signal lights, so no I cant just change them to all be brake and signal. If more information is needed let me know and I shall try my best to post it as well. Thank you for the time you took to read and ponder my question, I eagerly await an answer to my problem.
How do you install speakers in the rear deck of a 1988 Olds 98? I need to replace the 6x9 speakers in the rear deck of this car. The speakers "hang" into the trunk; the top part sits in a metal frame. The frame appears to keep the speaker from being removed via the trunk. The rear deck tray is so small (and the rear parking light is there) that I don't think the tray pulls up. And I don't want to remove the leather seating to replace the speakers if that is what I am supposed to do -- I'm afraid I'll never get it back in the right position. The car is a nice, clean old car -- want to keep its condition top notch, so I want to replace the speakers but not tear up the car. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to install these speakers? Thanks!!! Hi, Brad I did not find what you are describing. I pushed up all around the speakers along the metal frame .... nothing moved or seemed hinged -- solid metal with cutout holes where the speakers sit. This is a 1988 Olds 98 Regency Brougham. Thanks
How do I install a new spotlight on an existing house to an existing switch w/o replacing current light? we want to leave the existing light and add another light to brighten the other parts of our deck. We also want to use our current switch box, turning a 2-way interior switch into a 1 switch operation and wire the new light to the current switch. For clarity. I have an interior light that is on a 2 way switch. By my back door I have a 2 swith box (one of the switches for the outdoor light that I want to keep) the other for the interior light. I want to convert the switch for the interior light to run a new outdoor light. I hope that this helps.
how do you install a pioneer radio deck into a 2000 Chevy blazer? (4 door)? so, i finally got my dads 2000 Chevy blazer, nothing special but deff. something to hold me off until i can get something new, so today i go to my moms house and my step dad gives me a pioneer radio deck, so me being me tore apart the whole front end, took out the old radio, and cut the wires off the old plugs, now, my lights in my car are being retarded, and! my radio still isnt hooked up, i am good with computers, and audio, i can learn how to hook up the actuall speaker wire myself, my main concern is the "accessory " cord (red) the power cord (yellow) and the ground wire is black wich i would assume would hook up to the black ground wire coming out of my car? as far as that goes i just need to know what color wires that WERE hooked up to my old radio i could connect them to, and whats going on with my lights. im low on funds and would much appreciate it if someone who knew what they were talking about would help me get threw this one without bringing it to best buy to pay $50 + whatever else i'll have to buy to get it going. if you could help me out it would be a huge help and the best thing anyone could do for me right now =[ thanks....-mikemercer thats what i later found out after i cut my old wires from the harness, do you think it would be a good idea to re connect the wires than get an adaptor harness? or just go along with re wiring the entire thing? thanks for the reply btw i appreciate it.
How do I remove an old deck? Hello, we recently started ripping out an old deck that was in our backyard. It was rotting and falling apart and so we ripped off the top layer of wood. Well whoever installed it did a crazy good job, there are huge bolts (like they use on street lights) holding these HUGE boards together & on top of that they cemented posts into the ground. Not being the world's best at working in the yard, should I hire someone to complete the removal? If so how much will it cost? IF you think I can do it by myself, where do I start? Thanks so much!
how do you replace a blown fuse in a car? Can you simply find the blown fuses, then swap them with new ones of the same size and voltage rating, or is there something else you should do? What happened to me was, while trying to install a new car deck, power to radio and ceiling lights went out, probably because I mistakenly connected the antenna control to ground.
can't find an aftermarket headunit install kit for my 05 taurus? I can't believe ford did this. My 05 taurus has a passenger airbag indicator light on the front panel where the headunit is. I can use the basic kit to allow me to fit a new deck but then the indicator light will be covered up. Crutchfield told me that it was against the law to modify it and could void my warranty on the airbag system. what a crock. how could Ford do this. Any way does anybody no if it would void my warrant or is there a way around it.
How do I get my sub woofers out of protection mode? I have a 1995 Eagle talon tsi and I have subs and an amp in my car...SPL Series 2 1200 Watt Amp....I took it to get a new deck installed today. My subs do not work and the guy said that the light was on and the subs were in protection mode. I cannot figure out how to get it out of protection mode. Please help!!
How to enclose deck/porch, easy? My deck/porch is 10x16, it has an aluminum roof, and wood floor, and railings. I don't want to take the railings down. How to use what I have. I am not strong at all, (fibrosis), so it has to be light weight and easy to install. Some sort of pre-made framing and plastic and/or durable light weight windows? I have two portable air conditioners, so would like to be able use them in the enclosed porch/deck windows. Please advise. We have a lot of tornado's here in Cullman, Alabama. Thank you
why is it wrong for a women make me some dinner? i don't get why some women think i'm sexist just because i say i want my hypothetical wife (if i ever get married) to better know how to cook. i mean, what's wrong with saying that? don't women want men to know how to fix a car, change light sockets, install outlets, know how to tile, build a closet, landscape, paint, patch a leak in the roof, build a patio/deck, make a driveway, fix a garbage disposal, change plumbing? my dad knows how to do all of this and more and so do i because of him. plus, my mom taught me how to cook and clean up my own mess (i hate a dirty room) so i'm doing double duty. why do i have to be the only one doing dual "gender roles/duties" and women are excused from it. i would love some help from a girl to help me make concrete the old fashion way, WITHOUT a mixer, like i did with my dad in the hot @ss sun for hours. some of the best memories i have as a kid was helping my mom make dinner and my dad teaching me how to work on the car and the house.
Will a new car battery make audio system stronger? I just recently posted a question about a dead battery, well I tried jumping it but its completely dead, so I am getting towed soon to autozone to likely get a new battery installed into the car, and i am wondering if the new battery will make my audio system sound better than b4, because how it was now my lights and deck lights always flashed when the base hit, but my battery was very old ( but still ran strong!!!!) with it drained now I plan to get a strong Duralast battery, will this make a noticable differance? why do people say dont go with Duralast?
Car Audio and Lighting Questions? I need some help with outfitting my 2007 Honda Accord I just bought two blue led light strips to put under the driver and passenger dash. A friend of mine recommended wiring the lights to the cigarette lighter with a toggle switch. I'm not exactly sure how to do this but all I know is that I want the whole thing to be clean without wires hanging all over the place and i want to be able to turn the lights on and off. When it comes to the stereo, I have a few questions. I'm a little strapped for cash right now so I only want to install new speakers for now and wait til I have the cash for subs. Anyone familiar with the newer accords knows that the factory head unit is huge and also has the climate control on it so its gonna cost too much and take too much time to install a new head unit. So for now I'm planning on just putting in new speakers. 1.) What brand and size speakers should i install in the doors and rear deck to get the best bang for my buck? 2.) How important are tweeters? 3.) Whats the difference between regular speakers and component systems? 4.) Is it pointless to put in more powerful speakers if I'm not installing a more powerful head unit? 5.) Am I going to have to install a new head unit if i want subs? PS. I know virtually nothing about electrics and cars so if u answer keep in mind u r talking to an idiot
2003 Ford Escape XLS? can you change the gauges light, because i have green gauges but i want to know if i can install a blue light. also what kind of audio system would you suggest for the escape because it is a double deck....? oh and how much would tints cost for my windows??
how to find out what the remote wire go to? on my kenwood deck, there an blue and white wire is this the wire that blue remote wire connect to? im tryin to find out where the remote wire is suppose to go on since i have everything installed on but amp light isnt comin on
How do I get rid of interference or noise from XM radio in my car? I installed in honda accord. Placed rcvr near radio antenna in rear window (rcvr is about 6" from radio antenna). Ran into trunk under panels and behind center console below dash. Had to mount it higher than suggested by directions as console not condusive to proper placement. Symptom is noise like from an open mic thats a little bit hot (not feed back just hot). Reception can go lame in traffic close quarters or on overcast days. I do not have a cassette deck in car. Directions claimed that is best type install. I have that skyfi 2 deal...sure would be nice to have a plug and play option as in cigarette lighter deal like ipod.
Car amp red light staying on, no sound from subs. remote/grounding issue? I have a 1000w(max) Xplod amp and two 1200w(max) woofers. After having everything installed, the red light on the amp comes on (protect) and nothing comes out of the woofers. The light is staying on, regardless of weather or not the car is on. I know it's not an ohm issue, because I had the same setup in a different vehicle about two years ago, and they worked then. I had a grounding issue, but I think i fixed it. It might still be bad though. Also, could this me a remote wire problem? Hooking up to the remote wire in the deck didn't seem to do anything, but I still feel like there's a problem here. Or am I totally in Left Field? How do I get my amp and subs properly working?
How do I install an aftermarket stereo in a 1990 plymouth laser cd player/cassette combo? Hi. i have a 1990 Plymouth Laser with a factory amp, cd player, and cassette player. I bought a two piece wire harness and wired it to my new stereo. there is a left-over wire harness, and a black round 8 pin plug that both come out from the factory amp. when i turn on my new stereo, the power just flashes on/off. i hooked up the factory stereo without the extra wire harness/8 pin plug and no sound at all. the lights come on on both decks but no sound whatsoever. so, is there an adaptor i can buy or is there an easy way to bypass the amp? thank you. The car is in near mint condition and this is the first time the stock radio got pulled. All of the plugs are there and in like new condition. the factory amplifier is just below the bottom deck (it is a double din stereo) when i plug everything back into the factory unit all speakers work and sound great. i have an idea of what to do, which is trace every speaker wire and wire them directly to the new stereo's harness. i have hooked up many stereos in the past and have never encountered this. i was just looking for a faster/easier way to do it
How do I match wires from my stereo deck to my car harness in my 2001 Ford Escape? I am installing a Premier (pioneer) deh-p630 to my 2001 Ford Escape. The metra wiring harness for it is set up pretty simply, but I have connected all the wires I am sure of and have a few unproperly matched colored wires I'm unsure about. Every site I visit has color codes for the actual wires in the escape, not the metra aftermarket colors. The two wires from my stereo harness are blue with a white stripe and orange with a white stripe (the premier diagram says the orange with white stripe is to lighting switch terminal and the blue with white is to system control terminal of power amp or auto antenna relay control terminal) and the two from the escape harness are both orange, one has a black stripe. I am unsure which goes where. Also from the escape harness has a black wire with a white stripe that says "amp ground"...I do not have the optional factory amp installed, and assume thats what thats for since I ground my aftermarket amp directly to the body. Any help would be appreciate
help with amp and stereo install in my 99 Ranger? I asked this question a few weeks ago but unfortunately I was not able to provide pics of what I am talking about just because I don't know how to post pics on here. I am trying to hook up an amp and new head unit in my Ranger and I am at a loss on the wiring. I have the stock harness unplugged from the Original radio and I have a new harness for it with all the open wires on the end then I also have the aftermarket stereo harness for the deck. I know the blue wire is the remote and that runs from the deck to the amp. Next I have the power wire that I think runs from the amp through the firewall to the battery(I think)? Then I have the speaker wires I think since my car does not have a factory amp I can use the Original wires that are on the harness that I purchased to connect the speaker wires to and run them to the amp? Then I have a few other wires that I am not sure about. Here is a link you can cut and paste to the address bar so you can see what wires I am talking about. One is orange + orange/black + red + black + yellow + the gray/black one. I know one of these is for like a power antenna that I don't have and the others I am not sure where they would go. Like one of them someone mentioned I would need to jump the wire to the power from my cigarette lighter but I am not sure what that wire would be or what it does. If someone could provide some help with the other wires I would really appreciate it. I would like to try and get a good start hooking it all up tomorrow. I have been trying to research but It's hard to get step by step instructions for those particular wires. Thanks for your help. sorry I fforgot to add the link so you could see the wires I am talking about. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g118/dpsa98/Armandstereopic002.jpg

2000 Sunfire door chimes/lights on chimes don't work and led clock on stereo doesn't work, how can I fix this? I recently removed the factory stereo in my 2000 Sunfire to install my Sony HEX BT2500 deck, only to discover that 2000+ GM models require a $150 interface to properly install an aftermarket deck so that it communicates with the computer correctly. Because $150 is a little steep for a bunch of wiring and a connector we put the factory stereo back in thinking everything would be fine. We have lost the door chimes, the chimes when the headlights are left on and the led clock on the stereo itself. We didn't know before hand that this interface was required for everything to work correctly and that the computer to the car is basically connected through the stereo otherwise we wouldn't have even bothered, only after we removed the factory stereo did someone inform me that we may have lost the chimes and some other things light low oil light, low fuel light, etc. Is there a way that we can correct this so that everything works like it did before we removed the factory stereo? Please? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
Not getting 12v Radio Constant in 97 Grand Marquis? I've got a 97 marquis and a friend and i are trying to install a new deck. The problem were having is that the deck is not remembering settings and is going to presets every time i start up the car. We have a wiring diagram (http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1481.html) that we used to figure out the wires so far but now we're stumped. No fuses on the interior fuse panel are blown (though about 10 were blown in the trial and error process of installing the radio...) This is my current setup: STEREO - CAR blue/white - solid blue white/black - light blue/white solid white - orange/green green/black - tan/yellow solid green - gray/blue purple/black - white/purple solid purple - orange/red gray/black - green/orange solid gray - white/green solid red - green/yellow (was hooked up to yellow/black with same results) thick solid black - black/green thick solid yellow - yellow/black now, there's 3 wires that hook up to nothing: the solid blue on the stereo, and then the thin solid black on the car and the light blue/purple on the car. The solid blue on the stereo is for antenna. The light blue/purple I'm guessing is actually lightblue/red, which would be the car stereo illumination. The thin solid black on the car seems not to have any purpose though...? Another weird thing is that the white/purple i have hooked to the purple/black for the Rear Right speaker is supposed to be brown/pink but a brown and pink wire doesnt exist lol So I guess mainly the thing is that I can't figure out how to get a 12v constant. Friend suggested we could just run a wire straight from the battery through the panels and hook that up, but I'd like to do it the "right way" if it would be easier. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks! oh, also, the pink/light blue wire they specify as the constant 12v is also missing (so the brown/pink and the pink/light blue are BOTH missing from my wiring setup?)
What is wrong with my car audio/speakers? I drive an old '94 Honda Civic. It has (I believe) a '96 Prelude CD deck installed, and rear and front speakers were replaced around 2 years ago (that's it: no amps, no subs) I was just driving one day listening to the radio when the sound from my speakers went out and the signal connections to all my local FM stations went out as well. I tried playing a CD, but still no sound whatsoever. The deck still has all its power functions (I can turn it on/off, adjust the time, flip between AM/FM/CD, and change CD tracks), except the center display no longer lights up. And you know how you can scan through FM stations and it'll play the next signal it picks up, well since I can't connect to any local FM stations, my radio just runs through all the numbers, unable to connect to anything. Absolutely no sound through AM/FM or CD. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be or how I should go about troubleshooting it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
How much is my modified Ford Mustang worth? I am looking to sell my mustang and want to know a good price to ask. Its a 2000 Mustang Coupe, has 117000 miles on it. Its a head turner and looks super sweet, only one small dent on it above the bkac driver side tire. Exterior is in MINT condition! Kelly blue book has it at $3225 but it has about $4500 bucks in upgrades on it. Here is what it has: I just installed a deck cover for underneath the stereo where there was a hole from the old stereo. It is just a piece of plastic that has the word "MUSTANG" cut out designed by myself using a 3D program with a 3D printer. Along with that there is an iPod dock on the dashboard for easy access to yours or any iPod. All looks great. I am planning on putting in red L.E.D.'s behind the CD deck cover hooked up to either the stereo or the headlights on Saturday so it will glow through. -Cold air intake (Enhances mpg/horsepower/sound) ($150) -Performance module chip (Enhances mpg/horsepower) ($50) -Rear Spoiler -15" Konig Rims and performance tires ($1250) -4 extra winter tires and rims -Red and black Seat Covers ($50) -Heated drivers seat/massage ($40) -Brand new brake pads, rotors and calipers on back ($650) -Set of winter tires and performance tires -Cool black light lit interior lights above passengers and drivers legs. -Aftermarket headlights/foglights and lights on the hood ($350) -Dual 12 inch infiniti Subwoofers In box in back with amplifier 1235 watts each ($400) -4x 50 watt alpine stereo with ipod cable, reads MP3 Cd's/Data Cd's ($200) -2 ribbon tweeters ($50) -Red bumper inserts/stripes ($425) -Very clean and nice engine -Aftermarket Shifter knob ($20) The car is in mint condition. Please some mustang guru, let me know what I should be asking, thanks!
Upgrades for a 2003 Dodge Stratus Se sedan? What are some fairly cheap upgrades i can put into my car that wont mess with it. i'm looking to get better acceleration. it is a 4cylinder. and also the check engine light is on.. anyone know what might be wrong. mechanic said its because the engine is missing something in the emissions part. i think he's just feeding me some bs. and i also have rockafosgate subs and amp i want to install with a pioneer deck. i dont know exactly how to hook it all up. if you have a good website thatd be nice thanks.

help with installing a sub/amp in my 07 civic sedan? hello, i have a 2007 civic LX sedan with everything stock right now, i ordered this sub and it should be here later today, but i am confused a bit about the wiring install. the sub will be in the trunk, as far as the ground wire goes, this can just go onto the metal in the trunk right? the top of my trunk is bare and i was thinking of putting it there. also the power wire is confusing me. do i have to run the wire all the way to the front of the car straight onto the battery, or can this attach to an existing powerline in my trunk?(if there are any, i dont know) and the remote on wire im not sure about either, i can figure out the speaker wires as they seem simple. and i will be running the bass remote to the front of my car and putting it to the left of the steering wheel where the fog light controls go on the EX/Si. heres a pic of the wiring diagram on the manual i downloaded. http://i35.tinypic.com/n6w513.jpg its a fusion EN-AT1100 sub/amp combo also how do i run the cable under the carpet or somewhere it cant be seen, this is my first time installing anything into a car other than my friends aftermarket deck. im familiar with soldering/diy projects with small voltages, any help is greatly apreciated anyone? :x
Electrical outlets no longer working.? Two problems. My outdoors electrical outlet stopped working. My father-in-law and I installed it when we put hardi-plank on the back of my house. It worked fine for a few weeks, then suddenly stopped. I reset all my GFI's, removed the cover and checked the wires, made sure all light switches for the back deck were on, and also reset the breaker box. Nothing. Any ideas? Next problem. All of the outlets in the garage AND the driveway motion-light stopped working a few months before. I replaced the driveway light, thinking maybe it was broken, but nothing. There is some power in the lines because I thought I shut down the breaker, but I still got shocked. I also checked all the wire-connections at the actual outlets and they're all good. The outlets and light share the same wire, so I traced the wiring up into the attic to the junction box and all was good, except it isn't grounded for some reason. Could that be causing the problem? How could I ground a wire in my attic? Thanks. The garage has two outlets and one driveway light on the same line. Should I replace the wiring? Thanks for the suggestions. I had a voltage detector but I burned it up a few weeks ago (don't ask). I guess I oughta go get one of those doo-dads you mentioned. Sounds like a great investment. I'll also grab one of those books. I'm all about security blankets. Thanks for the ideas. Turned the house upside down. Only one GFI and I've reset it a few times. Nothing. I got a receptacle tester and the garage outlets are saying Hot/Ground Reversed. I think it's a false reading though because they worked fine in the past, and w/out touching anything, they stopped working. Also, I got a voltage tester. The garage outlets aren't reading on the voltage tester, yet there is enough power to make the receptacle tester work? Now I'm really confused. You're right, I'll probably end up burning the house down. I fixed the garage however. I traced the wires back up into the garage and untaped the splices done by the previous owners. Finally found where they had spliced two wires wrong. Re-did it and it works fine. Now for that pesky back porch...
how can i tell whats draining my car battery?.? it started when i added the first pioneer cd player...well got rid of that unit then had a pro at the audio shop install me a brand new cd head unit but guess what?...its doing it again.. i thought it might be the little att light that wont go off so i tried removing the detachable face-plate but it was dead again today. it takes about 11 hours to drain my battery. no lights are on or anything no glove box or trunk light nothing. just the lil clock. can this new deck also be draining somehow even though the faceplates off? one thing about this and the other cd player its like they're going into some kind of standby and wont really shut all the way off. i hit a button and they like pop right on..
Have you seen where your stimulus dollars are going? The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster. How's that 'hope & change" working out for you?
The stimulus went to what!? These people have no clue...unless all they wanted to do was spend money and reward their friends. How does any of this tie in with stimulating the economy? Everyone knows that heavy infrastructure work and legitimate new construction projects help the most...hell, even temporally stopping collecting taxes for the feds for a quarter would've been more productive than this crap. I Have No Dash Lights...HELP? Ok, I dunno if it matters, but I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota and it was recently stolen and I got it back within a half hour because all they took it for is my dirt bike in the back and they dropped the truck off in front of someones house, but in doing so, they took my deck(stereo) too. And it was dark out when I drove it back home, I realized I didn't have dash lights anymore, I figured they screwed up a wire removing my dash and stereo, I looked at it and didn't see anythin wrong. Well while I was looking at it, I noticed that if I touched the Yellow wire to the orange wire(illumination and I believe power) the only thing it, the dash lights would stay on, so at night I'd wire them together so I had lights and I figured that after I put in a new stereo, they'd work again thinkin that it had something to do with the stereo. Well, I installed a new stereo, and well, you guessed it, still no dash lights...so now what do I do? How do I fix it?
Screw-up while installing car stereo? My boyfriend and I were installing a stereo in my boyfriends car with limited experience, it seemed pretty simple, match the colours. However the idiot who previously had the car did a very poor job with the wires in the dash and so our approach at solving it was trial and error. We finally found the proper combination of wires to get power to the deck, and he was just about to turn off the car so we could connect it. I picked up the two wires to be connected, and electricity jumped between them and the interior light, which was on, went out, and now it, the dash, and tail lights will not work. I feel terrible and need to know what I have done and how hard is it to fix, and if it is something that requires a professional, how much is it going to cost? Thanks
98 Ford Taurus Brake Line 10 POINTS!!? How much would it cost to replace the rear driver side brake line with labor usually? I know exactly where the leak is and everything. Also I pretty sure I disconnected my speedometer hooking up my cd deck(unless it was just coincidence it stopped after I installed it) and was curious how much that would cost to get reattached. O...sorry one more thing. My cig lighter pulled out when I pulled my GPS charger out of it how much would that cost to get reattached to? 10 points for a good answer. Sorry for sounding weird I just don't want to get ripped.
Landlord trouble, need help? I live in Massachusetts. We have very specific laws regarding tenant's rights. I've lived in the house for 7 years and the landlord has always been reluctant to do repairs. We're having problems now with getting work fixed. We called the board of health in to do an inspection, but they didn't do it very well. The state sanitary code is specific, and they neglected to mention problems. First we have mice in the kitchen cabinets and we can't use them. I showed them the entry points into the house, they said it is our responsibility to take care of the mice, I told her the code says it is his responsibility to take care of them because he has neglected to keep them out of the house. I showed her the gaps in the basement door where they come in, as well as basement windows, and the holes in the cabinets. The 2" drain pipes has a 6"x12" square opening cut out of the cabinet as well as two inch gapes leading into the attic. Yet she negated to mention it on the report. The bathroom has a bad light fixture, a result of a leak in the roof that was repaired, but the light wasn't replaced, it wasn't on the report. The floor in the bathroom is rotten, the vanity in the bathroom is rotten, both were mentioned in the report, but they didn't mention the cause, a leaking toilet, nor the mold present on the walls, and the code says that the walls have to be mold resistant for four feet from the floor, yet it is covered in mold. Then we had a six foot slider leading onto a deck, the slider fell into the house, the landlord replaced it without a permit, he framed in a regular door, used old uneven boards as sheathing, put a tarp over the door opening and left it. After two weeks I installed the door, put duct tape over the gaps in the sheathing, put some insulation in and put up a piece of Sheetrock. There is a trap door in the deck right outside where the slider was and it is falling in, the reason for it falling in, and the reason for the slider falling into the house is a rotten sill, I showed it to the inspector, they mentioned that the side of the house needed to be sided, and the trap door needed repair, but not the sill. I made a point of mentioning the kitchen floor, the code says it has to be sealed, and if it is wood, which it is, it must be sealed and free from cracks, ours has no finish, is turning gray from water absorption, and the cracks between the boards are obvious and filled with debris from sweeping, yet she brushed it off, mentioning her floor is like that. She mentioned the gaps in the kitchen windows that we have taped up to keep the bugs out, but didn't put it in the report, there are no screen doors on any of the outside doors, except one which fell off four months ago and is sitting on the deck, yet made no mention of them. The repairs he's done have been substandard, I told them he replaced the water heater without a permit, and a few days later it leaked propane into the house. She saw the door opening and I told her how he left it, she saw the stained ceilings, bad light fixtures, etc. She did make him put in smoke and carbon detectors, since it turns out the ones we had were hollow. What really bugs me is I have a four year old. The hot water tank really bugs me, he's a licensed plumber, he knows the laws, and he put us at risk to save a $50 permit fee. Now had we died, he would be charged with negligent homicide, what I want to know is recourse. How do I go about getting the house fixed up to code, since he's a licensed plumber, born and raised in this town, and owns half a dozen properties in the town, and he knows everyone in town hall? Second, can I push to have criminal charges brought against him for putting us at risk to save $50? Third, once we reported him to the board of health he served us with a notice to quit, basically saying he wants us out of the house, which is illegal, it is retaliation, and we have never missed a rent payment. So what do I do about that? The attorney general's office said it was illegal to do, and just to ignore it, that if he tries to evict, it will be dismissed, but that would still be missed work, not to mention the stress we're dealing with now. I don't see the point to having the laws on the books if no one will do anything about blatant violations.
Just bought a boat Now what do i do? I just bought a 9000 dollar 34 ft. aluminum herring skiff It holds 16 tons of fish. I been fishing in alaska for some time now and am pretty good at steering and navigating a boat around southeast alaska. But because I've always leased a fishing vessel with a 200 volvo and 290 outdrive I never really learned to much about engines and outdrives because the owner would keep up to date on that. The boat I got has 2 350 chevy small blocks in em. I got a crash course in mechanics when I test drove 2 vehicles to make sure they were running good, which they were, Then we took them out of the vehicles and took off a whole bunch of stuff in the front. Power steering, and a couple other small car pieces but I dont know what. Then removed the manifolds and put on marine manifolds, Think thats what there called If not tell me what their called. I learned that they make a dry exhaust to wet exhaust So it can keep the engine cooler Why does it do this though? Because a marine engine works harder? Well anyways I'm hiring an mechanic to put on a outdrive for me because one of the 280 outdrives wasnt put on when I put it on the barge and the other outdrive was already installed (Had to make a saturday noon deadline or my boat wouldnt make it to my hometown in time for our herring fishery) We put the out drive bell housing and other outdrive stuff around the hole and inside the engine. Where would I learn about outdrives Because I do not know nearly enough to work on these yet. But I'm a fast learner. So anyways I still have to make sure my morse controls work on all my steering stations Which I think they do. I have to find out a way to take out the old gas because the bost has been sitting for a long time Again if you could tell me how I could do this also that would be great The owner gave me another 350 engine that they said was running great but I never got to test and he threw in another half an outdrive as well. Come to think of it I still need to put on my wet exhaust manifolds as well I been hearing from fisherman that they know people that can pull out 350 engines and take apart outdrives at an incrediblw speed. This I want to learn!! I need to attach my lights and buy a fathometer and vhf as well. I been around boats all my life and I can tell a good hull when I see one and this aluminum hull is 1/4 inch thick and no cracks on the welds on the whole boat I looked very carefully. In fact the boat I been leasing was in pretty bad shape and the deck was rotting The fiberglass hull hit a rock going at a pretty good speed. The boat was fine It never sank yet and that was 2 years ago But I think It might get soft just like the deck from a little small hole in the fiberglass Or maybe not Maybe those hulls are built to take punishment, You would think Huh? I don't know if the steering on the boat works either but the owner said they both were when he parked it I have 2 of then so chances are one will work I just hope if one of them dont the broken one is he inside one Because I feel more comthable steering from the bow with my fathometer . What are your opoions on my new situation that I seem to put myself in. I feel like a school girl waiting for a prom date all anxious and nervous My first boat and I'm in my 20s Shits getting pretty exciting for me. Do you have any advice for me I'll take any and all will be apreacited I will have 4 days to get to know my boat and put on the other outdrive before I have to go fishing. All the old salts in my small fishing community are saying we have like 9-10 days but I'm just assuming the worst so I will be more prepared.I never fished this type of fishery as a captain either I always deckhanded But I have a prety good idea. I will only be using what I think is my best outdrive and motor. The other engine and outdrive will be turned off in case anything happens to one of them I will have an extra one to use The fishery will only last 5 days or so Then I will be able to really spend some time with my boat and learn everything the right way. But until then I'm kinda new at this taking care of my boat thing Oh ya I plan on changing all my oils, fluids New plugs and wires, and a new distributor cap on my engines and outdrives before I go fishing I would like to do this in a day Is this possible and how much do you think everything will cost me?

how much would a 2004 dodge dakota SLTwith 72,000 miles go for? Don't tell me to blue book it, Im asking this because it has some body damage that i have not received the adjusters quote on yet. Details. 2004 dodge dakota slt 2wd only 72,000 miles, all 4 tires purchased with in 1 year, IN EXCELLENT mechanical condition, Just got new brakes on the front wheels 1 week ago, Top deck brand tonueCoverw (I call it atunnell cover) and a truck bed liner (not the spray kind, the hard shell that'ss installed) also Hase been lowered a few inced with a custoexhaustst system that makes it sound pretty hot! Also has side steps. interior is light gray in good condition. the down fall is that I was kind oboneded and I did not know that the registered owner of the vehicle had lowered the ins to liability, it was a hit and run accident so it isn't paying out. the damage is predominantly on the drivers side door, some damage to the cab but not much, the drivers door would need to bereplacedd and the cab may need some repair too. I just want to sell it, so if I was to sell it what would be a reasonable asking price? Its in excellent excellent excellent mechanical condition, i have always maintained it-that's what kills me... I would like honest but respectful opinions and comments, what would you offer? low kBB value for deaming the car at FAIR before the accident was 7,700 I would like to at least get 3000 for it~

Can i install garden lighting to my 20amp Hot tub feed.? I have a Hot tub on a sole 20amp feed to an isolation switch outside, i would like to know if i can tap into this switch and run some additional garden lighting, Flood light, decking lights etc... Any advice would be greatful
Can I install a "ceiling light" on a wall? This is an exterior light for a deck.? The box says it is an outdoor ceiling light, but I want to put it on the exterior wall instead of the ceiling; it is 17" x 17" x 6" deep, basically a square that mounts flush. By looking at it, I can't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to mount it like one would a sconce light, just don't know if there is some reason why I shouldn't. Thanks much for any help!
Putting lighting outdoors? I have a deck on my house... well, the house I'm renting. For some reason, the person who decided to build the deck didnt install any outdoor lighting...so its literally pitch black at night. Since I'm renting (and I'll only be living here a few years), I dont want to install actual electric wiring or anything. I just want something to put outside to create a little bit of light. Any ideas? Where would I get these lights from?
I'm trying to install a deck in a 1994 ford explorer...? The main wires running from the vehicle are Green/black stripe(thickest), Yellow/black stripe, Light blue/red stripe, Blue, and Green/yellow stripe. If anyone could help me i'd greatly appreciate it...Thanx a lot! From the back of the deck I have a Red (power), Yellow ( car battery 12+ v), White (panel light), and Orange (Auto antenna electric which also says ground)
Aftermarket JVC MP3 player not working correctly after install. Any help? I am trying to hook up my JVC MP3 deck in my girlfriends Saturn Vue. After successfully connecting the new wire harness to the correct wires on the deck, I get no display, no radio function. All I can do is load/unload CD's, press the display button to make the deck light up, and that's it. It is getting power, obviously. I have the RCA's hooked up to the back, but they are not plugged into the amp yet. The factory ground is hooked up as well as the ground that is one of the wires. HELP HELP HELP!!! (Response 1) Munky... Thank you very much. I will try that when I get home!!
Will tiny lights on my car door drain my battery? Theres tiny little red lights on top of my doors on my car and they keep blinking, my dad thinks its for an alarm that i dont have but whatever... Will it drain my battery or anything? They just keep blinking lol by the way i just took my car in to install a cd deck and speakers so maybe they re connected those wires to the light again?
What do I do with this orange dimmer wire on my car stereo? I recently installed a after market deck into my 1995 Integra using a wiring harness. The wiring harness has an extra wire I didn't use that says dimmer and is orange. After the install, the dimmer lights on the dash went out. What do I do with this orange dimmer wire to make the lights work.
Stereo install help please? My freind has a 92 cutlass. I sold him my used Kenwood deck and he's trying to install. I played deck on the last car I owned and it worked fine. i removed myself. It's his first car and I have no idea what he did on the install. He got a wiring harness for the specific vehicle, console kit for the radio to fit. He says unit will not light up or play. What could be wrong here guys? Possibly a blown fuse, i'm assuming he properly connected the ground and positive connection to deck? I'm trying to troubleshoot, because he's too far away and I just got the call now. I cant see for myself. Please tell me he didn't accidently fry out my deck? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Wanting to install HID lights on 1990 Cadillac Seville? as the question states I want HID lights on my Old Skool Lac.. But I am worried that this conversion kit may require something that a car from 1990 my not have. I already researched a bit http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/LampReplacementGuide/AutoLRG-Results.htm This link shows the possible replacement bulbs that I would use.. But do these HID lights require more battery power? I already have a red top Optima battery in my car but i also have a demanding amp dual 12" pioneers and aftermarket deck and speakers in the car. So I am worried that I may over charge my cars capabilities. what yall think? and whats the differeance between PH 6000K Single Beam HID Kit and PH 6000K Bi-Xenon HID Kit thanks for your time in response to the first guys post.. Maybe because I like an old body Cadillac? a short clip of my car http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMoUmedOnCM and my cardomain http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2322206 Please belive I have had offers for over $4000 on the car

Ideas for Living room curtain colors? Our walls are a light olive green color. We have oak hardwood flooring and darker furniture (kitchen table, Server, Recliners...) The curtains have to go over a double sliding patio door that leads to the deck. The patio faces the sun in the morning. Need some ideas as to what color curtain we should think of getting. We wold like to install a double rod so we can have a set of shear curtains between the inside curtain and patio door. Your help and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Problems With Pioneer Car Audio Deck? Okay so for quite some time I've had a Pioneer stereo deck hooked up to an 500w RMS Alpine mono amp and a single Pioneer 10" sub. The whole setup was working great until today when I hooked up a second Pioneer 10". The wiring doesnt seem to have any issues, and the amp light turns on with the car, but I'm getting no bass from the subs. I didn't change any of the settings on amp or the deck, and everything seems to be right, but still nothing from the subs. I'm thinking that something is wrong with my deck, but it is functioning totally fine other than that, ad everything was fine before I disconnected the amp to install the second sub. Any thoughts as to whats wrong?
fitting electrical sockets from junction box with armoured cable? i want to install the following could someone please tell me if this is correct? (e.g. the cable sizes (amps and volts etc) and the junction box etc.) - 2.5mm Armoured Cable (Amps: 36, Volts: 240) from the house to a 5-way junction box (32Amp). 2.5mm Armoured Cable from the junction box to double sockets (x3), a 5-way Manual Switch Box and a 5-way Remote Switch Box. From the Remote Switch Box; one Armoured Cable (1.5mm, Amps: 27, Volts: 240) to 3 wall lights, one Armoured Cable (2.5mm ) for double sockets for decking lights, one Armoured Cable (1.5mm) to a garden lamp post, one Armoured Cable (1.5mm) to a main pond light and one Armoured Cable (1.5mm) to small garden lights The manual switch box will power a pond mister, fountain and other pond lights
Wiring 2 motion detectors to the same series of lights? I have lights that are built in to the risers of my deck stairs, 5 lights in all. Since it's quite dark in this area, I'd like to install a motion detector switch at both the top and the bottom of the stairs, so that no matter where you start from, the stairs will be completely lighted as you go up or down. Basically, the lights would be wired between the 2 switches. Is there any problem with wiring 2 motion detectors like this? I assume I would need to wire it sort of like a 3-way switch. The motion detector I'm looking at has red, black and white wires, so could the red act as the traveller wire connecting the two switches, as well as connecting to the light load? (The manufacturer does not have specific information on this type of setup, but on the other hand does not prohibit it either.) Advice is appreciated!
Is this a reasonable estimate by a licensed contractor 47,351.00? I'm having my house enlarged and upgraded for possible sale: Room extention 10 X 26, whole house re-carpeted, new countertops (granite), replace kitchen sinck and faucet, new kitchen and dinning room floor (laminate) , new deck, new Heating and Cooling System to support the enlargement, whole house re-painted, cracks and holes filled, new light fixtures in 4 rooms, install ceiling fan, replace floor (vinyl) in guest and master bathroom.
Capacitor not installed right? i bought a 6 farad capacitor....before my lights for my car use to flicker some one told me that it helps your lights NOT flicker...but after i installed it...it does the same thing....the dashboard light the lights on the Stereo(Deck) im currently running 2 12' kickers...im thinking about installing two more....so if i install more will it help stop the flickiring or not? my guess is it doesnt but im thinkin bout giving it a try....anybody can help me?
Is it bad RCA's or what? First off, the retard at the install shop did not connect the appropriate remote wire so I had to remove the deck and do so myself. Secondly, after doing so the amp FINALLY came on HOWEVER still no sound from the subs. They are wired correctly (two single VC 12" Infinity kappa perfect 12.1s) and the RCA's are connected. Could it be the RCA outs from my deck no longer function and therefor require replacement of the Receiver or possibly the BRAND NEW amp has bad inputs??? If the AMP is getting power (which it is) and everything is connected appropriately could it be anything else? A bad ground perhaps? But would the Amp even turn on with a bad ground? It was a newer Audiobahn (new last fall) 600watt continuous MONO block flame Q amp now I think they have updated the model. So power, everything connected, no sound from cds or FM and the amp's illuminated center lights up... anyone have suggestions? REALLY? So AC volts and I can check the RCA outs AT THE DECK to see if there is a signal eh? I thought it would be DC but ooooo k...
Need Unwanted Pool Ideas? Pool Picture: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/456/4283081p01.jpg it's very deep for some serious diving. My wife can't swim. My dogs can't swim. So if i go swimming and start to drown then no one can save me. upkeep would be a small fortune. It would cost from $2000 to $8000 to fill it in (prob closer to $8000 due to the depth and no way to get a dump truck in the back yard - or even one of those 1-man cat-bulldozer things. just wheel barrels) can't turn it into a pond because of city code and mosquito fears from the city. What if i build some kind of a room into it? here's what i'm thinking and someone give me some feedback or point me toward a link. 1 - put about 12 inches of dirt and gravel in the bottom and level it out. 2 - put a deck on top of that. the deck anchored to stone blocks that are sitting about 6 inches in the dirt. 3 - put multiple support beams up. 4 - put a 2nd water proof deck on top of the support beams. wall from top to bottom with dirt on all sides. (wood walling) 5 - put about 12 inches of dirt on top of that. 6 - plant grass, install door with a ladder or folding stairs, use existing pool electrical for lighting. There would be 12 inches of dirt & rock in the bottom in case water gets in - it won't just puddle on the 'floor' and will help to soak up the water till it evaporates. Water evaporates fast in this part of Arizona. very dry. but the rainy season can be up to 3 inches of rain in one burst. "The annual average precipitation at Buckeye is 7.91 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is August with an average rainfall of 1.22 Inches." the supports would be anchored on the lower deck well and prop up the upper deck. i figure i'd build the walling with 2x4's about 8 inches apart sandwiched between thick plywood. In the end it will look like a sidewalk around a grassy knoll that you can walk on except for a small ventilation fan with a grate over it. I'm still wondering about drainage, though. What do you think? possible? suggestions?
solar or low voltage path lights? i'm looking around for some path way lights for the side of my house on along a walkway. and i was looking at solar path lights and low voltage which requires wires and a power source. i know low voltage are harder to install but thats not a problem for me haha. but yea i was wondering which were better because its a dark area and the solar ones dont look bright enough. answer with a link also to show me some ideas. its a step stone along the side of the drive way then at the end of it it turns into a deck like walkway thats like a couple inches off the ground. so if you can find lights that you think would look really nice with that (you dont have to if you cant picture it) thanks allot.
Need Help installing car stereo? Hi guys, I just bought a Sony headunit model no. Cdx-gt270, I tried to install it on my 94 Levin ae101 today with the wiring diagram I found on internet. After I hooked them up, headunit has got no illumination, but it does take/eject cds with the mechanism sounds, the buttons on headunit doesnt respond and does not light up or give any sounds to the speakers. Not too sure if I have wired them correctly, I thought the headunit should come with a illumination wire but it doesn't, I have hooked up everything from the headunit excepet a blue wire (Antenna) and a blue and white strip wire which I have no idea what its for. It seems to me the headunit should operate when the battery, ignition and ground wires are connected just that it won't give any sounds. Am I missing something here? or is it the headunit I bought has some problem? Here are the wiring diagram I am using to connect my Headunit. 1994 Toyota Corolla Stereo Wiring Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow Switched 12V+ Gray Ground Brown Illumination Green Dimmer n/a Antenna Driver's Pillar Front Speakers 5 1/4" Doors Left Front (+) Pink Left Front (-) Purple Right Front (+) Light Green Right Front (-) Blue Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck Left Rear (+) Black Left Rear (-) Yellow Right Rear (+) Red Right Rear (-) White Wiring color code for sony CDX-S2000 BLACK = Negative (-) Earth RED = 12V Power via Ingition YELLOW = 12V Power direct from battery BLUE = Antenna REM BLUE/WHITE = Amp REM WHITE = Front left speaker Positive (+) WHITE/BLACK = Front left speaker Negative (-) GREY = Front right speaker Positive (+) GREY/BLACK = Front right speaker Negative (-) GREEN = Back left speaker Positive (+) GREEN/BLACK = Back left speaker Negative (-) PURPLE = Back right speaker Positive (+) PURPLE/BLACK = Back right speaker Negative (-) I know some of you might suggest take it to the professional but I really would like to solve this myself and learn something from it Smile Thanks for the help in advance and sorry about my poor English.
Help comparing radio/stereo wiring diagrams on Pontiac Sunfire 2000? I'm trying to install this new stereo in my girlfriends car and I noticed the adapter for her model is around a hundred dollars because the chimes for her doors being open and so on play through the radio. We don't really care about the chimes and want the radio to just work so I did some hunting online for the wiring diagrams and color charts for her harness and found one that seems to match up good with the multimeter. The problem is I'm trying to match it with the diagram on the radio and it seems we have some wires that don't match, any input is more then welcome. Thanks. Here is the chart for the harness in her car... Constant 12V+ Orange Switched 12V+ Yellow Ground Black Illumination Gray Dimmer Brown Antenna Trigger Pink Antenna Right Front Front Speakers 4" x 6" Doors Left Front (+) Tan Left Front (-) Gray Right Front (+) Light Green Right Front (-) Dark Green Rear Speakers 6" x 9" Rear Deck Left Rear (+) Brown Left Rear (-) Yellow Right Rear (+) Dark Blue Right Rear (-) Light Blue Here is the chart on the radio itself... Red - Ignition 12v (+) Yellow - Battery 12v (+) Black - Chassis Ground (The rest is just the speaker connections and so on.) See my main concern is that her car diagram marks the power wires as Constant and Switched and her radio has the power wires marked as Ignition and Battery are they the same thing? Any help is much appreciated.
car audio installation.? Ok. i realize this might be a stupid question. but i got a big ported box with 12 inch subs in it. i also have a 99 audi A4 with the symphony sound system (stock) so in pondering whether or not to dish out the bills for an amp i was wondering if it would be possible to install the sub and amp without ripping the dash apart, pulling up carpet etc. i had this idea that i could run my inputs to the rear deck speakers and turn the amp on via the power to the lights which turn on with ignition. so then i would just have to figure out where to get power from without ripping up the carpet. any ideas would be appreciated. but please no hating i realize this is pretty far fetched.
My amp doesn't turn on when I put a cd in or try to listen to my ipod? Help please.? I have a Hitron HRA 2900b 1400 watt amp, and two 12 inch subs in my 2002 dodge neon, and it works fine when I'm listening to the radio and the bass is incredible. But I had my friend install it for me which I'm guessing was a mistake lol because when I switch over to CD mode or Media mode (Which is just my Ipod) the amp's indicator light doesn't come on.. So why doesn't the amp respond to those modes on my deck and it does from the radio?? Thank you for any answers, help is greatly appreciated. Oh and my deck is a kenwood kdc mp5032.

Should I go with two Sony Xplōd® 12" Aluminum DVC Subwoofers or one? I recently upgraded my radio deck to a Sony deck. A friend has already given me one Sony Xplōd® 12" Aluminum DVC Subwoofer, but I haven't installed it yet. The sub is rated at 400 watt RMS at 4ohms. 1) I have the option of buying a 800 watt RMS amplifier ($250.00), a box for two subs ($100.00), wiring ($50.00), and the second sub ($200.00). So a total of around $600 for the first option. 2) I have the option of buying a 400 watt RMS amp for around ($175), a box for one sub ($50.00), wiring ($50.00), for a total of around $250. I need suggestions on if I should spend the money for another sub or just take the money I have and install the one? Thanks! The only concern I have is that with 800 watt RMS, I will have to upgrade my wiring to the alternator, my lights will dim and I would have to buy a capacitor. Do you think with 800 watts RMS, I would have to buy the capacitor or do you think my stock FORD Explorer would be able to handle the power?
We just bought a fixer, what should we do first? We are still trying to close on this house, but I'm making my preparations since we have only 2 weeks of having somewhere else to live while we get the place in a condition we can live with while we make upgrades. It has a nearly finished basement apartment that only needs a few appliances, so we plan to probably live there while we work on it. We're planning on : Ripping out the carpets & linoleum and refinishing the hardwoods Painting Buying and installing new appliances Buying and replacing most/all of the light fixtures Tearing out an inset cupboard to make room in one bathroom Re-staining the kitchen cupboards Making concrete counter-tops for kitchen cupboards Replacing the kitchen sink Replacing the kitchen flooring Moving some plumbing around in the bathrooms Tearing out bathroom cabinets Putting new tile in the bathrooms, possibly tanking and making a wet-room Replacing the bathroom sinks with wall-hung sinks Replacing the bathroom window (maybe making larger or replacing with glass block?) Replacing the rusted fireplace box and facade Paint-stripping the fireplace mantle Paint-stripping the trim, built-in-cabinets and doors and replacing mismatched trim Replacing the gutters and flashing around the chimneys Fixing the sub-standard window trimming outside Tearing off the vinyl siding, removing the asbestos siding underneath and re-siding Adding vents to the roof Removing a possibly leaky greenhouse-style sun-window Putting up a fence Ripping out a deck This list is so huge and a bit overwhelming; which should we do immediately and which should we wait on? Obviously we won't want to install new tile bathroom floors before moving the plumbing, for example; and we won't want to paint after finishing the floors, nor before we strip the trim. However, some of the larger projects, like replacing the window with glass block, we may not get to for a long time, and it would be a pity to have our external window seals leaking while we wait and plan. My fiancee is a remodeler so we're pretty sure we can tackle all the projects, but in the interest of making the place as livable as we can as quickly as possible... does anyone have any advice on getting things into good shape quickly without causing more problems for ourselves down the road? We are buying this foreclosed house very cheaply, my fiancee, as I already mentioned, remodels houses for a living. You rarely find legal duplexes in the city for $73 a square foot. The structure is sound, the floorplan is decent, there are so many good things about this house that I shouldn't have to explain why we want to make some custom cosmetic tweaks. I could buy some other house that has had $3,000 put into cheesy cabinets and ugly countertops that is selling for $10k more as move-in-ready and still want to rip the whole thing apart.

Have you seen the stimulus bill hard at work? After a flurry of stimulus spending, questionable projects pile up By: Susan Ferrechio Chief Congressional Correspondent November 3, 2009 The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster.
